“You can’t help it. An artist’s duty, as far as I’m concerned, is to reflect the times.” – Nina Simone
I like the idea that you can use film to express just about anything. It is a good film that can move you emotionally and open your eyes to new ideas, exposing you to a different perspective on life. Every single frame is important; holding the potential to change an entire film. My love for technology, cameras, and computers, and my love for creating stories and telling them are two main reasons that I want to go into filmmaking.
Growing up in the Bronx I lived a different lifestyle than the average person. The Bronx has allowed me to become exposed to things the most people wouldn’t see. I’ve lived in the Bronx my entire life and honestly wouldn’t want to grow up anywhere else. As a film student at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, I have made work that has not only informed my viewers on important social issues, especially issues surrounding the black community but have also managed to entertain them through good writing and visuals. My ultimate goal is to raise consciousness and awareness to many communities but most especially my own. I will fight with every ounce of my being to make this a reality.
